This event accompanies the exhibition ”International Exhibition of Leather Forms”.

Lukas Hofmann’s practice encompasses performance, installation, sculpture, and video. Drawing freely from pop culture, digital media, and the intersections of mythology and contemporary life, Hofmann constructs environments in which the human body enters profound states of tension and absence.

His new performance, Stitches, conceived during a residency for the International Exhibition of Leather Forms, furthers his long-standing inquiry into skin. He approaches skin not merely as a boundary between the self and the world, but as a site vulnerable to trauma and illness, as well as, much like his accompanying piece S.C.L., to the commodified instrumentalization of skin into leather. The performance is also shaped by the dreamlike surroundings of Baszta and by the building itself, and informed by Hofmann’s residency in Ustka, with its sanatorium history, natural landscape, proximity to water, and restorative atmosphere.

Rejecting linear narrative, Hofmann opts for poetic, embodied situations. Through a tapestry of gesture, costuming, tactile contact, and deliberate absence, he conjures latent emotions and open-ended questions instead of neat, unambiguous resolutions. Stitches takes shape as a situation stitched together from medieval fantasy, folkloric imagery, ritual, spoken word, a séance, battle reenactment, and a sense of play, rather than as a plot-driven spectacle.
