Thanks to funding from the European Regional Development Fund for the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2007-2013, we had the opportunity to implement a project called the Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art – Creation of the Creative Activity Center in Ustka. The Creative Activity Center was created as a result of the modernization of an old grain granary, in which until recently only part of the space was occupied by the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art. Currently, the entire granary is owned by the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art in Słupsk under the name Creative Activity Center. It is the first center of this type in Poland and one of the few in Europe and the world. Similar places are located, among others, in Kecskemet in Hungary, Vallauris in France and Tokoname in Japan.
The Creative Activity Center was created with artists in mind, but also with the local community. The following workshops are available to both: a sculpture and ceramics workshop, a computer and film graphics workshop with the most modern equipment and software. The Creative Activity Center also has a lecture hall and an exhibition hall. The modernly equipped accommodation and café facilities are prepared for artist-in-residence stays. The Creative Activity Center will be a place for interdisciplinary activities for broadly understood visual arts. Film, music, theater and performance projects will be implemented. It will be a place of “happening” understood in the broad sense of the word: as artistic activities, meetings, conversations, as well as the exchange of creative thoughts and ideas.
In parallel with the creation of the Creative Activity Center, the “Art Park” is being created on the initiative of the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art in Słupsk, the works of which can be admired throughout the city and the surrounding area. We will invite the most outstanding artists from Poland and around the world to perform them. All activities of the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art are aimed at popularizing Ustka as a city that permanently inscribes itself on the cultural map of both Europe and the world.
