More than an exhibition, Radio that Listens is a social space. Making use of the architecture of the Tower and the water nearby we wish to create a situation in which the diverse dimensions of sound and listening practices can be experienced together. How do they affect our perception of the surroundings and ourselves? How can waves invisible to the eye broaden our horizons, inspire us to act for our benefit and the benefit of the communities around us? Due to the immaterial nature of sound we are able to cross physical boundaries that shape our perception of reality beyond the visible. Such an acoustic space turns voices into architects of alternative dimensions, challenging the automatism of thought and the uncritical habit of taking what can be seen for granted. The invisibility of sound has got yet another power \u2013 it combines the abilities to imagine and to create possible (other) worlds. Such heterogenous levels of experience and reception refer us to the concept of radio and \u201cradioness.\u201d In audio practices we want to see the potential for honing those abilities that strengthen us as social beings: building alliances and taking action together here and now.<\/div>

Imagine radio that instead of numbing us to the sounds, strengthens our imagination and creativity; instead of manipulating us into faster work and more buying, inspires us to invent; instead of fatiguing us, refreshes our acoustic sensitivity; instead of making us ignore thoughts and surroundings, stimulates listening; instead of broadcasting the same things again and again, does not repeat; instead of silencing us, encourages us to sing, to speak, and make radio ourselves; instead of merely broadcasting at us, lets us listen through it.<\/i><\/p>
