Tomek Baran was born in 1985 in Stalowa Wola; he lives and works in Cracow. He graduated from the faculty of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 2010. He presented his works at some solo exhibitions at the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery, AS Gallery, and Delikatesy Gallery in Cracow, as well as at the MDS Gallery in Wroclaw. He has taken part in many group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. In 2010 he got an art residency in Montrouge, and in 2012 became a laureate of the international Strabag Artaward. He was also awarded by the “Art&Business” magazine during the 10th Geppert contest (2011).
This young outstanding painter has become well known thanks to his unusual pictures that referred to the art of expressive abstractionists. He is involved in things that are not common for painting, namely the spectacle, space and temporariness. This is the reason why his sensitivity to space and his looking for connections between light and colour bring to mind the activity of Olafur Eliasson, who has investigated the mechanisms of perception, encouraging the viewer to his spectacles rather than to the static pictures of abstractionists.
