Sławomir Marzec was born in 1962; he got the diploma in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1986 and Meisterschule Diploma at Kunstakademie Dusseldorf in 1988; since 1988 he has worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, currently running a painting studio at the faculty of painting; since 2003 he has also been a Professor at the Institute of landscape architecture of Lublin Catholic University. The author of over 60 solo exhibitions, publishing also texts and books concerning the borderland between art theory and criticism.
Sławomir Marzec cultivates various forms and conventions of art – painting, installations, computer-aided prints, films, etc. Since 2006 he has titled the majority of his exhibitions, cycles of works and publications with the word EVERYTHING. In his opinion ‘everything’ is the most paradoxical notion which opens the whole space of our existence in its complexity, multidimensionality and mystery. This word includes everything and nothing at the same time; what’s real and impossible, past and future. Therefore it realizes our irreducible limitations. It shows the necessity of an ‘impossible and unreal wholeness or height’, at the same time dealing with kind of concreteness and extremity, and leaving aside all forms and meanings. At this exhibition Sławomir Marzec will present 3 cycles of his works: 12 pictures, the bricollage Everything, and a few films.
