PAWEŁ KORBUS, “We are fine, but a little afraid of love/war”
“We are fine, but a little afraid of love/war”; these words are to a certain extent obvious, a little bit trivial, partly unsaid for fear of ridiculousness, close to truism, while touching sensed subcutaneous anxiety about the future, the fear that is present in everyday life in relation to personal relationships and life situation in our country during the growth of military threat on the eastern side of the border, in the context of Polish-romantic myth of sacrifice, courage, and bravery in an important case, as well as of war situation in Ukraine, or the refugee issues. These words associate also somewhat ironically with the slogan “make love not war”. The words Love! War! are displayed alternately, being alternative one to another, complementing the full sentence, provoking to stand by one of the parties. There appears the historical and military context of Ustka as an important point on the strategic map, at the same time being the place of summer love and holiday relaxation, forgetting current affairs and focusing attention on the pleasures. The whole discourse about love is risky and bordering on cliché, but it’s a cliché resulting from deep human nature. Emotionality and need for love, even if trivialized with words are an essential part of human design, so the project, speaking about “love”, concerns everybody and extends beyond the community interested in art.
