The process of uniting European countries is an unusual historical, economic and cultural challenge both for Poland and Europe. With the possibility of using the European Union funds the new accepted countries have had enormous odds and chances of development, retaining their own cultural identity. Thanks to the financial support from the European Regional Development Fund for the Pomeranian Province in the years 2007-2013 we have been able to work-out and implement a project entitled The Comprehensive Program for the Development of the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery: Creating the Centre for Creative Activities in Ustka.
The Centre for Creative Activities has appeared in result of the renovation of a historic granary, the modest part of which had been occupied by the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery until recently. It will be the first centre of the kind in Poland and one of the few existing in Europe and all over the world so far. Similar institutions exist in such places as Kecskemet, Hungary, Vallauris, France, and Tokoname, Japan.
The Centre for Creative Activities has appeared both with artists and local people in mind. Sculpture and ceramics ateliers, as well as a computer-aided print studio and a film studio equipped with the state-of-the-art hardware and software are at the disposal of the ones and the others. The Centre for Creative Activities includes a large lecture room and an exhibition hall. A modern accommodation base and a café bar will be prepared to enable artistic residences and placements.
The centre is supposed to become a place for interdisciplinary activities within the field of widely understood visual arts, as well as film, theatre and performance projects.
This includes artistic events, actions and happenings, as well as meetings, talks, and the exchange of creative thoughts and ideas. Simultaneously with the appearance of the Centre for Creative Activities, a Park of Arts is coming to being on the initiative of the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery in Słupsk. The most outstanding artists from Poland and from the entire world will be invited to present their works within the framework of the Park of Arts which is to be presented throughout the city and around. All the efforts and actions of the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery tend to popularize Ustka as a city that is clearly present on the cultural map of Europe and the world.
