Ola Kozioł was born in 1983 in Skierniewice. In 2009 she graduated from the faculty of printmaking and painting of the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, getting the diploma at Prof. Piotr Stachlewski painting studio. At present she works as an assistant professor there.
She cultivates painting, installation art, video art and performance, but the specificity of her artistic creation consists in using the so called white voice technique (overtone singing, throat singing) in parallel with these methods of visual arts. This kind of archaic chant is one of the characteristic features of east European folk music: it can be heard in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Bulgaria. The piercing voice of throat singing has been as if meant for being propagated through open steppe spaces or penetrated the noise of crowded rooms. Ola Kozioł is a member of two traditional singing groups that cultivate this tradition of throat singing; their names can be translated as the Urban Feather Strippers, and the Great Choir of Chorea.
