Monika Szwed was born in 1978 in Poznan. She has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, getting the diploma from the faculty of artistic education under the direction of Prof. Alicja Kępińska and from the faculty of multi-media under the direction of Prof. Piotr Kurka. She is a laureate of the 3rd edition of the Young Poland scholarship programme (2006), the E. Geppert contest (2007), and a grant holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2009). Her works belong to collections in Poland, Germany, United Kingdom and the USA.
Monika Szwed creates subtle, refined and precise works of economical colours and multi-thread narration. Inspirations with Japanese prints and fairy tale drawings can be seen in her works. Precise drawings, image metamorphosis, sophisticated colour, as well as threads and scenes from the borderland between dreams and reality are characteristic for her works.
