BASZTA CZAROWNIC

Maria Wrońska obtained a degree in sculpture (1993) under Professor Leon Podsiadły at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Between 1992 and 1995 she was an academic assistant of Professor Alojzy Gryt. Between 1996 and 2007 she worked under the supervision of Assistant Professor Waldemar Szmatała. Currently, she works at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.

The artist has presented several solo exhibitions, and in recent years she has participated in dozens of group shows. All of the projects of the Wrocław-based artist, including those shown as part of presentations exposing problems, are carefully prepared realizations created with a specific place and time in mind. The artist’s installations and object-oriented works are poetic, hybrid and one-off. This naturally makes practicing space-oriented art – both material and spiritual – a disinterested discourse, which is a rare occurrence today. The only type of negotiation practiced by the artist is a dispute with herself and with the place. The minimalistic objects and installations by Maria Wrońska somehow allude to the arte povera movement and draw on optical experiments, and yet they preserve their unique character. Her works are invariably symbiotic with the surrounding space, using its potential, accumulation of meanings and history.
