Katarzyna Majak “Women of Power”
Opening: July 4th, 2014, at 5.00 p.m.
Witches’ Tower
The exhibition will be open till September 7th, 2014.
The exhibition Women of Power consists of the cycle of portraits and conversations with contemporary women living in Polish villages and towns. Women that occupy with alternative forms of spirituality are the protagonists of the project; this includes healers, witches, visionaries, spiritual guides and artists. These women are mostly the representatives of various traditional streams of pagan spirituality; some of them, however, believe in their own original spiritual systems. The common denominator of their beliefs and ideas is in stressing the importance of the primordial bonds between man and nature, the epitome of which is the mythic queen Mother Earth. These Women of Power are shown in their ritual or formal dresses decorated with the jewellery of magical significance; some are presented with typical attributes in their hands: feathers, stones, shells, shaman drums, herbs, swords, sickles, magical figurines and other objects that resemble the royal insignia.
Being presented for the first time in 2012, the project has been shown in Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia and in New York.
